Isaac Royall

Isaac Royal never intended to abandon hearth and home, he tried to explain to anyone who would listen. He just got caught on the wrong side of the revolution. Realizing that tumult was not good for his health, and that he had business elsewhere, he had journeyed to Boston after the Lord’s Day Evening service, and “unfortunately staid there for two or three days and dined with the Honorable Capt. Erving the very day the Battle [of Lexington-Concord] happened, after which it was impossible to get out of town.”
“I went to Halifax expecting...to meet...a vessel bound to the West Indies,” he continued. “All my things were packed up with that intention.”
